This weekend is the final one of the Section V high school football regular season.

It appears that Irondequoit, the Section V Class A champion that reached the state semifinals, has recovered from an 0-2 start to get into this year’s playoffs. The Eagles play at Canandaigua, 2 p.m. Sat. Oct. 17.

Fairport at Webster Schroeder, 7 p.m. on Fri. Oct. 16. also is significant. A win for Fairport puts the Red Raiders in, otherwise the door opens for McQuaid.

Below are the final high school football coaches rankings. The Section V Tournaments begin next week.

Aquinas’ Jamir Jones, right, tries to break the tackle of McQuaid’s Atiba McLaren during a regular season game played at McQuaid Jesuit High School on Saturday, October 10, 2015.

Despite an undefeated regular season, top-seeded Aquinas will have stiff competition in Class AA. There are two other undefeated teams in No. 3 Pittsford, and last year’s defending class champion, Victor.

All three teams are 7-0, which could make for exciting matchups in the semifinals and final. All three teams play an opponent in the first round with a record above .500.

Fourth-seeded Hilton could be a team to upset the potential undefeated matchups. The Cadets are 6-1, with their only loss coming to Victor, 42-34, less than two weeks ago.

Class A

Brockport (No. 1) and Canandaigua (No. 2) are the top seeds in Class A. Brockport defeated Canandaigua 33-28 back on Sept. 11.

No. 3 Greece Athena plays No. 6 Irondequoit in the first round. The Eagles are the lower seed but defeated the Trojans 35-14 in Week 6.

Class B

Batavia played a mixed schedule between RCAC schools and Finger Lakes schools, resulting in an undefeated regular season and a No. 1 seed.

The Blue Devils’ top competition will be No. 2 Livonia, whose only loss came against an undefeated Bath team. However, the Bulldogs have dominated in their six wins, scoring 50 points per game while allowing 11.

Class C

This class will have an exciting finals matchup if the top seeds make it there. No. 1 East Rochester/Gananda and No. 2 Bath are each undefeated and neither team was challenged much in their respective leagues.

Both teams got stronger as the year went on and they would each be the best team the other has played all year in the championship.

Class D

They have something that only Class AA also has: All eight teams in the tournament are above .500. In fact, only No. 8 Dundee has a record worse than 5-2. Top-seeded Red Jacket and No. 2 Avon both enter the postseason without a loss but they will have heavy competition to make it to the final.

The team to watch out for is No. 5 Bishop Kearney. The Kings went 5-2 in their first season as an independent, with their only game against a Section V opponent all year being a 30-15 win over Batavia Notre Dame in Week 5.

The finals for all five classes will take place on the weekend of Nov. 7 and 8 at Sahlen’s Stadium.

Five things to watch in Class A football

Daniel Harris, left, Ty’Sean Sizer and their Irondequoit Eagles teammates had more reasons to celebrate in the second half of the 2015 regular season after a slow start.

If the Section V tournaments are where champions really defend titles, it appeared Irondequoit’s football team would not get the chance.

The Eagles, Class A state semifinalists in 2014, were 1-3 more than halfway through the season. And their final three games were against Wilson, Canandaigua and Greece Athena, playoff-bound teams.

Ty’Sean Sizer and Shawn Jones were among the Irondequoit juniors who showed it would be OK for the team to diversify its offense. There also was the experience of Irondequoit’s rebound from an 0-3 start last season to draw from.

So Irondequoit (4-3) is on a three-game win streak before its Section V Class A tournament quarterfinal at Greece Athena, 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

“You can’t win all the games the next Monday or Tuesday,” Irondequoit coach Dan Fichter said. “You can make the change over the course of weeks.

“To be honest, it wasn’t that bad. We’ve got a good football team, and the kids know that.”

There are a few good – or evenly-matched, if you choose – teams in the Class A tournament. Here are five things to watch or know when the playoffs begin Friday night.

Schedule: Section V football playoffs

Final high school football coaches’ rankings

1. The seeds may be buried: Brockport (6-1) and Canandaigua (5-2), the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, lost regular-season finales to lower seeds in the Class A tournament. No. 6 Irondequoit is the hottest team in the field. And the regular season went like this for No. 5 East Irondequoit Eastridge: two wins, loss, win, two losses and a win.

2. Does No. 1 Brockport get out of the first round?: Common sense says yes, but a few of the coaches in the field would be less than shocked to see things occur in the tournament that don’t make sense.

Does Brockport (6-1) bounce back from the shock of its first loss, 21-12 to No. 3 Athena, against No. 8 Wilson (3-4)? Wilson’s share of the Rochester City Athletic Conference title may not impress outside the league, but the Wildcats and one or two of their coaches believe the team had a chance to defeat Brockport last year in this round. The rematch of the Blue Devils’ 17-6 win is back at Brockport, 7 p.m. Friday.

3. How long can Spencerport wing it? It’s old, bruising and can be somewhat confusing. Spencerport’s double wing offense goes against how football is being played today, where teams try to spread out defenses. That is why it can be a tough offense, including plays with double handoffs, to prepare for in a week.

4. Another rematch: No. 5 Eastridge went to No. 4 Greece Arcadia in Week 3 and the Lancers’ 36-3 loss was included on a list of shocking results that weekend. We may see how much motivation counts for the Lancers, who scored 49 points during a lopsided win in Week 7.

5. When Athena is hot, its hot. When it’s not……: The point totals for the Greece Athena Trojans with junior Tavon Granison at quarterback in wins, including two playoff-bound opponents: 40, 34, 41, 14 and 21.

The not-so-magic number is 14 in Athena’s losses to Canandaigua and Irondequoit,
